Taste Safe Sensory Play- Moon Sand

Although things have been a little bit crazy around here, I’m still trying to have a sensory activity ready for P to do everyday either with me or with whoever is watching her that day. Recently we made some home made moon sand, and we had a blast with it.

This recipe is also taste safe, because Paislee loves to put things in her mouth. Here’s the recipe:

Taste Safe Moon Sand

+ 8 cups of Cheerios

+ 2 Tablespoons of Vegetable oil

Instructions:

Take the 8 cups of Cheerios (you may have to split it in two depending on the size of your blender) and put it in your blender or food processor. Blend until all Cheerios are crushed. No blender? No Problem! You can also put the Cheerios in a gallon sized bag and you can crush with your hands that way. Just make sure the bag is really sealed!

Once you have blended or crushed your Cheerios, dump into a mixing bowl and add your vegetable oil and stir to combine. If you don’t have the consistency that you are looking for, then add more vegetable oil by the table spoon.

Dump sand into your sensory bin (we’ve been loving the blow up ones linked below), add some sand toys, and go to town.

Sensory Tip:

If you have a baby or toddler who still likes to put things in their mouth during sensory play, try putting a pacifier in their mouth. When Paislee has her pacifier in during sensory play, I hardly have to worry about her putting everything in her mouth!
