My Postpartum Freezer Meal Prep Plan: What I’m Making (One Batch at a Time) Before Baby #4
I’ve done the newborn thing three times before, and one thing I’ve learned? A stocked freezer is pure gold in the postpartum haze.
With baby #4 on the way, and the fact that I’m almost in my third trimester, I’ve been slowly coming up with a plan—aiming to make just two to three freezer-friendly meals per week. It’s low-stress, manageable with toddlers around, and it’s giving me so much peace of mind knowing we’ll have real food ready to go whenever she decides to arrive.
This plan was inspired by one of my favorite blog posts/Youtube videos from Delilah Loeppky, where she shared 3 weeks of scratch-made freezer meals. I loved how real and simple her approach was, and I’m using it as a jumping-off point to prep meals that actually work for my family: hearty, homemade, and kid-approved.
Here’s what I’m stocking in my freezer—breakfasts, snacks, lunches, and dinners—and how I’m keeping it all doable with littles underfoot.
Breakfasts & Snacks for the Early Days (and Middle of the Night)
I focused on sweet, protein-packed breakfasts that double as snacks and late-night nursing fuel.
1. Freezer Pancakes
Triple batch of from-scratch pancakes with fresh milled flour, frozen in stacks. We pop them in the toaster when we want a hot breakfast fast.
2. Cottage Cheese Muffins (FMF Version)
These muffins are packed with protein, super toddler-friendly, and perfect for grab-and-go. I use FMF (fresh milled flour), cottage cheese, eggs, chocolate chips, and banana for a nourishing option that freezes well.
3. Homemade Granola
Oats, chia seeds, maple syrup, cinnamon, and chocolate chips (added after baking). Great with yogurt or milk—and easy to portion into freezer bags. This is another recipe I love.
4. Lo’s Lactation Cookies (from The Labor Mama)
These are so dang good, and perfect for the freezer. Oats, flax, and brewer’s yeast—perfect for supporting milk supply and satisfying my sweet tooth. You need to try this recipe, and check out her other incredible birth resources!
5. No-Bake Energy Bites
Rolled oats, peanut butter, honey, flax, chia, and mini chocolate chips. A quick nursing snack or toddler-approved treat.
6. Sourdough + Sandwich Bread
In addition to our everyday sandwich loaf, I’m planning on making and freezing 4 extra sourdough loaves to cover postpartum breakfast toast, sandwiches, grilled cheese, French toast bakes—you name it. One less thing to make when baby arrives!

Lunches & Dinners for the Whole Family
Each week, I’m prepping two freezer meals—sometimes doubling what we’re already having for dinner. Most of these are familiar favorites with a few new additions for variety.
1. Honey BBQ Meatballs
Always a hit. I use oats instead of breadcrumbs and freeze them in BBQ sauce. Serve with rice and some veggies/fruit.
2. Beef Stroganoff Sauce
Creamy, comforting, and toddler-friendly. I freeze just the beef sauce and serve with egg noodles and green beans on the day of.
3. Lazy Meat Lasagna
Layered ricotta, marinara, ground beef, and mozzarella with cooked noodles. Baked in foil pans and ready to heat from frozen, easy peasy.
4. Cilantro Lime Chicken (Crockpot Dump Meal)
Frozen raw with marinade—just dump it in the crockpot and serve with rice, beans, and avocado.
5. Chicken French Dip Sandwiches
Shredded chicken frozen with au jus. We’ll serve on toasted buns (already made in the freezer!!) with cheese for an easy, comforting meal.
6. Sesame Honey Chicken
Sweet and savory. I freeze the marinated chicken and pair it with rice or noodles and broccoli for a quick weeknight dinner.
7. Chicken Peanut Curry
Made ahead and frozen with veggies and spices. I’ll serve it over rice with store-bought or homemade naan when/if I have a minute.
8. Homemade Freezer Pizzas
Crusts rolled out, topped, and frozen on cardboard. I like to par bake them so that they hold together a little better while adding toppings and taking in/out of the freezer. So simple to pull out and bake fresh for a Friday night in.
9. Sourdough French Toast Bake
This one’s for an easy postpartum brunch—or a cozy dinner. I cube up stale sourdough, mix with eggs, milk, cinnamon, and a dash of maple syrup, then freeze it in a foil pan. Just pop it in the oven when we need a warm, nourishing meal. Bacon optional. But not really.
10. Cheesy Chicken & Rice Bake
A crowd-pleaser. I cook rice, mix with shredded chicken, cheese, cream cheese, and broccoli. Into a foil pan it goes, then into the freezer.
11. Taco Meat + Fixings
Ground beef with taco seasoning frozen flat in a zip-top bag. All I have to do is heat it up and serve with tortillas, rice, or over a salad—easy postpartum dinner rotation win.
Tips for Keeping It Simple
- Make just a couple meals per week starting in the third trimester
- Freeze in foil pans or labeled freezer bags to save time and space
- Write clear instructions on every meal: name + “cook from frozen” or “thaw first”
- Keep a running inventory list taped to the freezer
- Double dinner when it’s something everyone loves and freeze the second batch
Meal Prep Must-Haves (What I Actually Used)
If you’re getting ready to fill your freezer before baby, here are a few kitchen tools and staples that made this whole process way easier. These are things I used over and over again while prepping—and many of them are perfect for postpartum cooking too.

Final Thoughts
This isn’t about prepping like a machine—it’s about making postpartum (and my husband) feel a little more supported.
Whether you’re in your third trimester with big plans or just making a few meals ahead, anything you do now is going to bless your future self. Even a freezer full of muffins and taco meat can make a huge difference when you’re sore, sleepy, and snuggling a newborn.
This little stash of food feels like a gift waiting to be unwrapped in the weeks after baby girl arrives.
