5 Weird Reasons I Knew I Was Pregnant BFP

If you’re anything like I was the first time (and even second time) around, there is a good chance that you found yourself searching the internet at 2am, sleeping next to your partner, trying to figure out if these weird things that have been happening to you are in fact some weird early symptoms of pregnancy, or simply symptoms of being a woman. I’ve seen a lot of Youtube videos that talk about this, but sometimes you just need some good old long form content to get you through those anxious thoughts.

I’m currently pregnant with baby #2, and in both pregnancies I had a feeling I was pregnant before I actually took that first test. The whole “you just know” thing is sometimes very accurate! And sometimes it can also be very misleading when you want it (or don’t want it) so badly. Here’s some weird things that happened to me that clued me in that something was going on in my body before it was soon enough to take that test.

A Warning and Disclaimer–we’re about to get real here. So if you are not wanting weird details then do not continue on! I’m also not a doctor, so please do not take any of this as a medical diagnosis that you are in fact pregnant. This is simply something to keep in mind when you’re in the dreaded 10 days of waiting, and my own personal experience with my pregnancies. Let’s dive in!

1. Cervical Mucus

This was the first thing that clued me in with my second pregnancy, because during my first pregnancy I learned how not only your cervical mucus changes during pregnancy (like seriously, the minute you find out you are pregnant make sure you have some panty liners on hand. Trust me, you’ll need them at some point very soon! Here is my fav low tox option because when you’re pregnant you want to cut those toxins wherever you can!), but the amount of cervical mucus is kinda insane sometimes. If you’re noticing a change in your cervical mucus (out of the ordinary from your normal cycle), this might be an indication of early pregnancy.

2. The Amount Of (and smell of…) Gas

Yeah, I went there. There is a reel I saw circulating IG about how a mom who had been pregnant before smelled her own gas and instantly knew! If you’ve been extra gassy lately, it may not be that Taco Bell you ate. For me, my burps are a huge indicator that I’m pregnant. I’m a lucky one (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) that doesn’t really deal with what you typically think of as gas, so keep in mind that there is more than one type of gas and this can be an indication of early pregnancy!

3. Tiredness/Fatigue

This is a very common early symptom of pregnancy, I think for me more so with my first pregnancy than during this one. Don’t get me wrong, I am and was so tired at the beginning (and currently the middle) of this pregnancy, but I have another baby to chase around to keep me distracted. With my first I was so tired all the time. I would nap in the early days sometimes twice a day, and be in bed by 7 every single night. That was definitely something that was odd to me that clued me in to something going on in my body!

4. Tender/Swollen Breasts

As someone who has always been in the small breasts club, this one was a big indication to me as my breasts started swelling almost instantly. I’m not sure how it is for you if you aren’t in this club, but for me that was definitely an early sign.

5. Basal Body Temperature

This is the one that clued me in that I was definitely pregnant before I took that first positive test. I had been using Natural Cycles, which is an app designed for natural family planning. I personally am not a huge fan of hormonal birth control ( this is not a post shaming you in any way for using birth control, I just encourage you to do lots of research in any birth control method you plan on using) so we use Natural Cycles to help track my cycle–aka Natural Family Planning. Part of that method is taking my basal body temperature right when I wake up. At the point in my cycle where my period was supposed to start soon, my temperature would always go down. Well, this time my temperature stayed up, indicating to me that something was different in my body when typically my cycle was like clockwork. After extensive Googling, I learned that your temperature is slightly increased while pregnant.

I hope that some of these things help you/don’t panic you in this waiting period. Just a quick reminder– a lot of women don’t have any symptoms up until 6-8 weeks or even longer and as I mentioned earlier, this is my own personal experience!

Are you trying to get pregnant or wanting to ditch hormonal birth control?

Natural Cycles is what we used both times to get pregnant (yes, both times were intentional!) and it taught me so much about my cycle/body. Click the button below to get a free thermometer and 20% off your subscription!
